Children's Summer Workshops:
Week 1: July 8 - July 12

AM Workshops and PM Workshops
Half-day, weeklong workshops occur each week of our four week session from July 11-August 5, from 9:30am- 12:00pm for the AM session and 1:00-3:30 for the PM session. We have different workshop experiences for ages 5-18 years old. There's something for everyone!

"Stay All Day" Lunch Program
If your young artist wants to stay all day, we will be hosting lunch break between the AM and PM sessions. Bring your own lunch and enjoy art and games in the park with one of our teaching artists. A group leader will sign out the students from their AM workshop, eat lunch and play, then sign them into PM workshops.

This class will intergrate many different art making methods. Experimient with painting, drawing, collage, and color while making both 2D and 3D projects. Experiment, explore and imagine this summer as you flex your muscles!

AM - Stop Motion Animation for ages 13 - 18 [cwsu-1a-4] | Mrs. Marie Elcin

Get back to the basics of magic with this class that explores a variety of optical illusions. Create old school toys guaranteed to amaze your friends and family with visual trickery. Projects include 3-way paintings, phenakistoscopes, kaleidoscopes, magic lanterns, and moving slides. Ever wonder how your favorite cartoons are made? Take a week and learn the tricks to make your drawings and ideas come to life! Students will try their hand at making early animation toys, hand drawn animation, and stop motion animation.

Students will look at work by architects and designers and design a ‘dream home’ with blueprints and inspiration boards. They build a model using boxes, wallpaper scraps and other building material.

AM Fiber Art and Felting for ages 11 - 13 [cwsu-1a-3] | Mrs. Quincy Carpenter

In this workshop, children will be introduced to a variety of fiber arts techniques for making decorative art and functional craft in both 2D and 3D. We will explore different fiber media which may include felting, stitching, weaving, printing on fabric, and even toy-making. Projects will be inspired by both contemporary fiber artists and traditional textile traditions from around the world.

Young artists will explore storytelling through words, images and bookmaking. Students will become author, illustrator, and bookbinder for their own original book. This workshop is open to all skill levels for students who are interested in developing storytelling and bookmaking skills.

PM Clay Sculpture for ages 5 - 7 [cwsu-1b-5] | Ms. Jill Allen

Ages: 5 - 7

Create colorful containers, realistic "Pop Art" sculptures and more in this "clay-z" class! Students will learn how to build with clay using pinch, slab and coil techniques while creating unique vessels and sculptures. Pieces will be decorated with colorful slips and glazes. We will end the week with a Clay Olympics!

PM Painting and Drawing - Imagination and Observation for ages 11 - 13 [cwsu-1b-7] | Mr. Manny Gonzalez

Students will learn a variety of painting and drawing skills and techniques each day. Using a large sketch book/ illustration book as the foundation, students will explore and practice what they learn. Ideas will be generated from the imagination and by aspects of their lives as they chronicle dreams, thoughts, imaginary tales, and daily encounters using various media (paint, collage, ink, paint pens, etc.).

Are you a budding designer? In this class students will learn the basics of the photo silkscreen process to design and print your own T-shirt designs and/or posters.n this introduction to screen printing, students will learn many screen blocking methods, registration techniques, and single and multi-color printing on paper and t-shirts. Through jumpstart drawing exercises students will develop their own images to explore the hand drawn screen print process. .).
