Intensive Workshops
Intensive Workshops are great for people who may be limited on time but not creativity! Whether day-long, week-long or Five week-long, these courses are jam packed with focused art instruction and fun! Intensive workshops are offered in a variety of media. Open Studio options for more advanced students will also be offered. Costs and lab fees vary.

Digital Drawing: Learn to Sketch on Your iPad [assu-60] |

Mondays, July 22 and July 29We live in the age of technological revolution, take advantage of what new tools it can bring to your drawings. Combine the age old practice of sketching with contemporary technology through your iPad. In this workshop you will get an introduction to the basics of how to draw on your tablet using the app, Paper by 53 . Through in class demonstrations, one-on-one coaching and critique you will get familiar with the functionality available to you to make and share digital drawings. In the second session we will take it out into the field to see and experience all the advantages of drawing with your tablet. You will also use an iPad with the app Paper by 53. This free app includes several tools, but instructor recommends downloading some additional paid tools. While the app is finger-friendly, a stylus is highly recommended. August 7 Learn how to create a three tone patina on your sculpture in this focused one day workshop. You will use shellac and dry pigment to create the middle tone in the first layer; a second layer will create the dark tones through a technique of laid on and wiped off oil paint, and you create highlights by dry brushing pigment in Butchers Wax for the third and final layer. Please bring a plaster cast, fired terra cotta or plaster samples. Tuition: $25(Members), $30(Nonmembers), Lab Fee: $15

Are you looking for a focused adventure in the art of photography and the chance to bond with fellow photo enthusiasts? Join faculty Ahmed Salvador on this epic journey as he champions the darkroom in a 24 hour crash course in photography. You will learn all the basic skills including: print and manipulate black-and-white images in the darkroom, operate your 35mm camera settings for greater control, develop film, and how to print from negatives. There are no prerequisites for this gonzo darkroom experience, only a taste for learning and the stamina to see what develops. Each session will focus a different inner layer of the human form, from the musculature down to the bone. August 5 - 9 You will learn non-toxic water-based silkscreen, a versatile and quick form of printmaking. Bring ideas to the first class in the form of photos, computer-generated images, hand-drawn, painted or appropriated images. You will learn how to develop your ideas and images, on a project of your choice: hand-drawn, digital, and photo processes on fine-art paper or fabric, through instructor led demonstrations and critiques. Beginning students will learn how to create and prepare stencils, and how to print multiple layers of color to build your image. We will also work on color mixing, using ink modifiers and printing with opaque and transparent color layers. More advanced students will learn how to create photographic stencils using photo emulsion on the screens. You will also explore experimental techniques of monoprinting with acrylic ink and high quality water soluble crayons along with stencils. Tuition:$125(Members), $140(Nonmembers), Lab Fee: $30
