Children and Youth Wednesday Workshops Spring 2012

Fleisher offers affordable afterschool workshops for children and youth ages 5 to 18 in a variety of media. Students engage in hands-on, art-making in a fun, supportive, and enriching environment. Afterschool workshops are designed to provide young people with opportunities to develop artistic skills, foster engagement with the arts, work collaboratively with their peers, encourage self-expression, and build confidence as a creative person.

Costs
Each workshop costs $150 (Members) or $170(nonmembers) for tuition plus a $25 lab fee, and runs for 10 weeks and during Fleisher’s fall, winter and spring terms. Workshops are offered in two sessions on Wednesdays:
  • Session 1 runs on Wednesdays from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM
  • Session 2 runs on Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM

Transportation
Fleisher does not offer transportation from schools. Getting to Fleisher using public transportation is easy on either the 47 or 40 buses. Parents also frequently arrange carpools.

A Session: Adventures in Food Sculpture for 5 - 7 year olds [cwsp-w-81] | Ms. Darla Jackson

Ages: 5 - 7

Working with clay, students will learn how to use pinch, slab and coil techniques to create different types of food! Ranging from farm fresh to far far away, this culinary tour in clay will have you asking for seconds! Students should bring a snack along. Tuition: $150(Members) $170(Nonmembers), plus $25 materials fee

A Session: Cartooning for 8 - 10 year olds [cwsp-w-82] | Mr. Pat Aulisio

Ages: 8 - 10

Learn the fundamentals of creating and designing your own cartoon characters and there environments. Students will learn how to make their own story with their own characters into a comic book ready to be reproduced. They will learn different techniques and tricks used by professionals to help perfect there own cartooning style. Along the way students will learn skills by using different exercises and collaborative games to enhance their drawings. Students should bring a snack along. Tuition: $150(Members) $170(Nonmembers), plus $25 materials fee

A Session: Elements of Design for ages 11 - 13 [cwsp-w-83] | Mrs. Marie Elcin

Ages: 11 - 13

Young artists will learn basic elements of art and design through 2 dimensional projects. Students will learn about composition, perspective, value, tone, shading and basic color theory. This workshop is open to all skill levels for students who are interested in developing or enhancing their technique and drawing skills. Students should bring a snack along. Tuition: $150(Members) $170(Nonmembers), plus $25 materials fee

B Session: Doodle, Paint and Splash for 5 - 7 year olds [cwsp-w-86] | Ms. Samantha McConnell

Ages: 5 - 7

Working with various painting and drawing materials, young artists will use elements of art, such as, line, shape, color, and texture to create their own artwork. Students should bring a snack along. Tuition: $150(members) $170(Nonmembers), plus $25 materials fee

B Session: Clay World year for 8 - 10 year olds [cwsp-w-84] | Ms. Erin Broadhurst
4:00 to 5:30 PM

Working with clay, students will learn how to use pinch, slab and coil techniques to build both containers and creatures. Each semester, students will build a different "world" and arel welcome to take this class multiple times.This class is limited to 15 students ages 8-10. Students should bring a snack along. B Session: Digital Design and Photoshopfor 11 - 13 year olds [cwsp-w-88] | Mr. Rocky Kev

Ages: 11 - 13

In this class, student will learn create digital monster in Photoshop then use these characters to create digital books and video games. Students will learn the basics of Photoshop as we bring our monsters to life through animation! Release the monsters! Students will walk away with a custom book and on line animation. In this class you will be challenged to exercise your computer smarts in a new and creative way! This class is limited to 10 students ages 11-13. Students should bring a snack along. B Session: Darkroom Photography for 13 - 18 year olds [cwsp-w-85] | Ms. Elyse Derosia

B Session: Gadgets and Sculpture Family Style [cwsp-w-87] |
4:00 to 5:30 PM
Ages: Family

Family Style, this popular class will be offered this Spring as a parent and child together workshop. Get the geek bug together by learning about mechanics and easy ways to modify everyday gadgets into Art. Students will work together and learn basic hand tools, explore and disassemble machines, and create simple kinetic sculptures out of household items in partnership with The Hacktory. The Hacktory, is a local non-profit whose mission is to promote the use of technology in the arts. By registering your child, you are agreeing to have a guardian or parent (grandparent) attend class with the young artist. The cost of the workshop includes the young artist and their parent or guardian. This class is limited to 15 students of ages 8-10. Students should bring a snack along. Tuition: $150, plus $25 materials fee
