Wherever There Is Water

a community collaboration with George Ferrandi

The Fleisher Art Memorial is pleased to present Wherever There Is Water, a residency project with Brooklyn-based artist George Ferrandi.

Wherever There Is Water is a collaborative project centered around the story of Huberta — an elderly woman who sets off in her bunny slippers on an epic journey from her daughter's home in Florida to find her old life and her love.

While Huberta's adventures on this journey are the main thread of the narrative, George intends to shape and combine that story with inspiration gathered from many members of the Fleisher community. George will translate these into illuminated sculptures and other artworks that will be the subject of an exhibition in January. The project will culminate in a grand night parade through the streets of South Philadelphia on Saturday, April 24th, 2010.

Share your story
NOVEMBER–DECEMBER 2009
George is collecting stories from neighborhood residents, artists, and anyone interested in participating in the development her project. During the month of November, she will be hosting informal teas at the Center for Works on Paper on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

If you would like to become a part of the project, you may schedule a tea time meeting with George by email, or call 215.922.3456 x 344. Perhaps your story will form the foundation for a figure in the parade!

Get involved
FEBRUARY–APRIL 2010
Sharing your story is just the beginning. George is seeking willing participants to create works for and participate in the night parade. In the spring, George will also be conducting several workshops to create processional objects. Here are some ways to join right in:

Join us for the perfect night out. On Saturday, February 27th, we will be hosting Torch Lights & Toddies in the Sanctuary. Open to adults only (sorry, little ones), the evening will include hot toddies, music, and lessons in paper lantern making. Torch Light & Toddies is free and begins at 7:00 PM. Please RSVP to nightprocession@gmail.com.

Fleisher Memorial Choir
Ready to join the chorus? We will be hosting rehearsals for the first-ever Fleisher Memorial Choir every Tuesday in March and April from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. If you are interested in joining us for these rehearsals and the parade, please call 215-922-3456 or email mmartinez@fleisher.org.

A Month of Lantern-Making
Throughout the month of April, we will be hosting a series of lantern-making workshops in the Center for Works on Paper gallery, which is also George's studio. These free events will be held every Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, and cover a different style of lantern each week.
