Fleisher Faculty Fellowship Exhibition:
Rick Wright
Late Petroleum Age Vessels

23 OCTOBER 2010 — 14 JANUARY 2011
Suzanne Fleisher & Ralph Joel Roberts Gallery,
Fleisher Center for Works on Paper, 705 Christian Street

Opening reception: Saturday, 23 October 2010, 5:00–7:00 PM

The Fleisher Art Memorial is pleased to present a solo exhibition, Late Petroleum Age Vessels, featuring faculty member and Louchheim Fellowship winner Rick Wright. Late Petroleum Age Vessels opens with a public reception on October 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and runs until January 14th. The exhibition is in the Suzanne Fleisher & Ralph Joel Roberts Gallery, Fleisher Center for Works on Paper, 705 Christian Street, Philadelphia.

Late Petroleum Age Vessels explores the idea of one entity disguised as another, creating inverted meanings, confusion, and questions. Prompted by these impressions, Rick's photographs focus on brightly colored thermoplastic containers that when taken out of cultural context, illustrate hidden personalities and allusions to infinite and incorrect uses.

Admission to Fleisher's galleries is free. Operating hours, while our fall semester is in session until November 20th, are Monday through Thursday 1:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 9:30 PM, and Saturdays 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. When Fleisher classes are not in session, the gallery will be open Monday through Friday by appointment only.

The Louchheim Fellowship was created in memory of Dene Louchheim, Chairperson of the Fleisher Art Memorial from 1964 to 1980, and spouse of Stuart Louchheim, Samuel Fleisher’s nephew. The competition is open to all Fleisher faculty. Applicants submit ten images of recent work, along with a statement about how the fellowship will impact their teaching at Fleisher. The process is juried, and once chosen, the fellowship winner receives $900 and a solo show at Fleisher.

Mr. Wright has been a Fleisher faculty member since 2008, teaching both a digital and darkroom photography classes. In his advanced darkroom classes, Mr. Wright invites contemporary artists as guest lectures and is always ready to meet students outside of class to ensure they have enough time in the studio in addition to class time. He also teaches Photoshop® at Project Basho and gives online workshops through Panasonic.
