Ella King Torrey Exhibition and Young Artist Prize
The Ella King Torrey Young Artist Prize honors Ella King Torrey (1957-2003), who was a passionate supporter of individual artists. Ella King began her professional career at The Pew Charitable Trusts in 1985 and later established the Pew Fellowships in the Arts, considered the most prestigious measure of accomplishment for artists in the region.
The Ella King Torrey Young Artist Prize was created by Ella King’s mother, Ella Russell Torrey in 2008 and celebrates Ella’s joy, excitement and commitment to artists by encouraging exceptional teenaged students at Fleisher. An award of $1,000 is given to one young artist each year to support his or her continued development in the arts and increase exposure to opportunities in the arts.
Artwork created by the Ella King Torrey Young Artist Prize applicants who range in age from 14-19 is currently on view through December 5 in the Suzanne Fleisher Roberts and Ralph Joel Roberts Gallery. The 36th annual Wind Challenge Exhibition Series continues with Wind Challenge 2, featuring work by Talia Greene, Janell Olah, and the artist collective Barbarism (Sarah Secunda and Rebecca Katherine Hirsch).

About the DISPLAY Exhibition
Fleisher Art Memorial’s first edition of the international exhibition Display will feature the audio visual work of 12 artists or collectives projected through large size windows from the Suzanne Fleisher and Ralph Joel Roberts Gallery in the city of Philadelphia. These windows face the diverse region of Southeast Philadelphia. For this reason Fleisher Art Memorial seeks audio visual works that establishes a conversation dealing with international immigrant’s issues, conditions, and exodus manifestations in the recent years.
