Thomas Vance

Untitled, 2002, Mixed Media
Thomas Vance’s multipart installations make references to a variety of sources: architectural landscapes, packaging systems, and conventions in modern painting. Vance uses cardboard, masking tape, and construction paper along with more conventional drawing and painting materials to make what appear to be casual pieces that are stacked or leaned against the wall. The work calls into question the formal boundaries between painting and sculpture. Mr. Vance received his B. F.A. from the Cleveland Institute of Art, and his M.F.A. from Tyler School of Art, Temple University.
