Somebody's Husband, 1997, digital photograph, 30"x40"
As a physical layer that mediates the viewer's perception, the rectangles that were once literally data (computer key-punch cards, the technological birch bark of another generation) have become a metaphor for data. The suggestion of rain or light is purely an accident, but a relevant one. Through these opposing metaphors, we alternately have a choice of interpreting the technological overlay as deluge or enlightenment.
