Joyce Filip

Marble and Metal, 1997, secco/oil paint on panel, 15"x20"
For a number of years I have been working in the genre of still life painting, concentrating on observation and the relationship of shapes and forms in their surrounding environment. Certain shapes suggest gender and give clues to specific feelings and meanings. The juxtaposition of shapes and subject matter lead the viewer in a certain direction of interpretation. My intent is to present the still life in a transformed state to the viewer. I hope to convey the beauty of nature on an intimate scale and to relate a personal love of graceful shapes, harmony and order.
