Broken Labyrinth No.7, 1997, watercolor/pastel/silkscreen on paper, 36"x36"
My recent work explores the special complexities of the labyrinth and its integration with biomorphic and geometric forms. The organic forms in the work are derived from specific biological organisms. They have been transformed or stylized to a more symmetrical or generic look. The recent collage-like or ambled drawings involve cutting several labyrinth drawings into a grid format, then reassembling them into a larger image. The recombined image is an attempt at forming a complete structure, but only attains a disjointed representation of the original.
