FLEISHER ART MEMORIAL
TEEN LOUNGE
The mission of Fleisher Art Memorial is to make art accessible to everyone, regardless of economic means, background, or artistic expression. It is in this spirit that the Fleisher Art Memorial established the Teen Lounge in January of 2008.
Fleisher Art Memorial Teen Lounge is one of six lounges in South Philadelphia associated with the Southeast Philadelphia Collaborative (SEPC). The Southeast Philadelphia Collaborative is a consortium of neighborhood-based organizations dedicated to providing educational, safe, fun and inspiring learning and social environments for youth ages 5–18.
Fleisher's Teen Lounge is a relaxed drop in lounge where young people between the ages of 13 and 18, are offered a variety of activities which include those that allow them to explore their artistic and creative abilities in a variety of mediums.
Teen Lounge at Fleisher Art Memorial is accepting project proposals from teaching artists for the 2009-10 school year. The workshops should offer young people between the ages 13–18 an exciting opportunity to be introduced to a medium or explore a theme of relevance to this age group and be completed in 6-8 hours (3-4 sessions) maximum. Teaching artists will be paid $150 for every two-hour workshop. Experimental workshop proposals welcome. The sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Approximately 15 students attend our Teen Lounge from a variety of levels in art making experiences.
