Queen Village Resident Sock Dolls

Second Grade

Teacher Partners: Mrs. Epstein & Mrs. Fernandez
Teaching Artist: Rasheeda Bey

Students engaged in a study of the people and the neighborhood of Queen Village. Although not a Queen Village resident, Marian Anderson (of South Philadelphia) was one of the key figures students learned about. With the goal of creating a doll that celebrated the important characteristics of Queen Village residents, students constructed and sewed dolls that paid tribute to the important people in their lives. A trip to the Philadelphia Doll Museum also enriched the students understanding of the tradition of dollmaking.
