My Queen Village Home

Third Grade

Teacher Partners: Mrs. Coy and Mrs. Weiss
Teaching Artist: Jessica Gorlin-Liddell

Beginning with a walking tour of Queen Village guided by Joel Spivak, a local architect and Queen Village historian, students learned about a variety of architectural styles and traditions, from the 17th to 20th century. On the tours, students sketched building facades to scale. Students then balanced their reading and writing about Philadelphia architecture with classes held in Fleisher's ceramic studio. Students utilized their façade sketches for their clay homes. They also created furniture and decorated the interiors of their homes. Journal reflections also complemented the project work in and outside of the classroom.

Students transfer their facade illustrations into clay.

Students decorate and design the interiors of their houses.
