Winter 2010 Free Classes for
Children, Teens & Parents

TEN WEEKS: 16 JANUARY — 20 MARCH 2010

Please see the grid for detailed class information

Fleisher's classes for young people provide training and creative and cultural experiences for children ages five and older. Sessions are designed to foster learning, encourage individual expression, and provide arts appreciation and skill development in a wide range of disciplines.

Our youngest students focus on tactile projects that introduce a range of materials and concepts. Older students focus on skill development, individual choice, and in-depth study of specific media. Our instructors are experienced teaching professionals in the arts.

No tuition fees are charged, but students must pay a materials fee for the semester. Tuition assistance is available.

Details about the registration procedures for the Spring 2010 classes will appear soon.

Painting and Drawing
(ages 5 to 18)
Children develop creative thinking processes while exploring a variety of mediums and techniques. Formal elements of color and design are introduced at age-appropriate levels.

Sculpture
(ages 7 to 18)
Three-dimensional work allows young artists to expand their understanding of artistic concepts and techniques.

Printmaking
(ages 10 to 18)
Drawing skills are expanded and developed through intaglio and relief printmaking techniques of collagraph, etching, monotype, linoleum, and woodcut.

Parents
These classes, specifically offered to parents of children in the Saturday programs, give parents the opportunity to explore their creative potential.

Please note: It is not necessary for parents to enter the class lottery. If your child is chosen for a class, we will make room for you in the appropriate parent class.

Please see the grid for detailed class information.

Conducted both in English and Khmer.

Cambodian Classical Dance students are asked to take a $15 Fleisher membership.

Interested students may enroll in person on Saturday, 9 January 2010, or anytime through MyFleisher.

LOTTERY PROCEDURE

For your convenience, Fleisher has devised a lottery registration procedure for our ever-popular Saturday Young People's program. The lottery schedule is as follows:

1. 1 – 21 DECEMBER 2009: Download or pick up a lottery registration form and class information form at Fleisher, Monday–Friday, 10:00 A.M.–5:00 P.M., or send a self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope to:

Children's Program Lottery Form Request
Fleisher Art Memorial
719 Catharine Street
Philadelphia PA 19147-2811

2. [EXTENDED DUE TO WEATHER]
Monday, 21 DECEMBER 2009, 5:00 PM: Deadline for delivery of all completed forms to Fleisher. These may be mailed or hand-delivered during office hours.

3. Following week: lottery results will be sent to all participants. [Waiting lists are established once a class fills, and applicants will be contacted if spaces become available. Waiting lists are not held over from one term to the next.]

4. Saturday, 9 JANUARY 2010, 10:00 AM–1:00 PM: Parents/guardians of those chosen in the lottery must attend orientation and registration to verify enrollment by paying lab fees. Bring verification postcard or copy of e-mail notification. Those who do not finalize registration on this date will be removed from the roster and replaced with individuals from the waiting list.

Additional information concerning Saturday Young People's Program class policies will be provided at orientation.

Because Fleisher's classes are designed to be age-appropriate, children entering this program must be at least 5 years old in January 2010. Parents of five-year-olds must present proof of their child's age at registration.

Membership and Materials Fees
No instructional fees are charged, but students are asked to take a membership of $15 for the term. Students are required to pay materials fees: $25 for those taking painting and drawing classes and $35 for those taking sculpture or printmaking. If you require financial help to meet this expense, tuition assistance information found may be here or by calling 215.922.3456. These forms should be included with your lottery form.
