Fleisher's classes for young people provide training and creative and cultural experiences for children ages five to eighteen. Sessions are designed to foster learning, encourage individual expression, and provide arts appreciation and skill development in a wide range of disciplines.

Our youngest students focus on tactile projects that introduce a range of materials and concepts. Older students focus on skill development, individual choice, and in-depth study of specific media. Our instructors are experienced teaching professionals in the arts.

No tuition fees are charged, but students must pay a materials fee for the semester. Tuition assistance is available.

Drawing and Painting
(ages 5 to 13)
Children develop creative thinking processes while exploring a variety of mediums and techniques. Formal elements of color and design are introduced at age-appropriate levels.

Mixed Media
(ages 5 to 10)
Young people explore contemporary techniques and materials to create three- two-dimensional pieces combining painting, drawing and sculpture. Formal elements of color and design are introduced at age appropriate levels.

Sculpture
(ages 7 to 18)
Three-dimensional work allows young artists to expand their understanding of artistic concepts and techniques.

Printmaking
(ages 10 to 18)
Drawing skills are expanded and developed through intaglio and relief printmaking techniques of collagraph, etching, monotype, linoleum, and woodcut.

Art Foundations
(ages 14 to 18, or by teacher recommendation)
This class will provide teens with the basic skills needed for advanced classes. Focusing on the elements of art and design, drawing skills (use of line value, contrast, form, volume, perspective, and compostion) will be developed through exercises in direct observation.

Oil Painting
(ages 14 to 18, prior enrollment in Art Foundations required)
This class will focus on advanced techniques in drawing, composition, color mixing, and painting with oils. Students will complete at least three peices for their portfolio.

Digital Photography
(ages 14 to 18)
Students will develop their photographic eye, and make images that tell stories while capturing their own point of view. Students will learn basic editing, manipulation, and printing of images through Photoshop® Elements. Teens must provide their own digital camera.

Silkscreen
(ages 11 to 13)
In this introduction to screen printing, students will learn both photo and hand-drawn methods of silkscreen printing. Young people will have the opportunity to translate their artwork into a series of prints on paper or t-shirts.

Cambodian Classical Dance
(ages 6 to adult)
This class teaches the ancient dance forms once practiced exclusively for the royal court of Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Court dance teaches the ancient stories of gods, demons, and heroes, and the symbolic meaning of gestures, costumes, and masks. The class requires stretching and exercises in breathing and balance. Class is conducted both in English and Khmer. Membership required
