Cambodian Classical Dance
22 September — 15 December 2007 [no class 24 November]

11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (ages 8 and up, and returning students)
Mr. Yin

This class teaches the ancient dance forms once practiced exclusively for the royal court of Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Court dance teaches the ancient stories of gods, demons, and heroes, and the symbolic meaning of gestures, costumes, and masks. The class requires stretching and exercises in breathing and balance. Conducted both in English and Khmer.

Cambodian Classical Dance students are asked to take a $15 Fleisher membership.

Interested students may enroll in person on Saturday, 22 September 2007, or anytime through MyFleisher.

How to Register

LOTTERY PROCEDURE

Following the success of this system the last several semesters we continue with this new registration procedure for the Saturday Young People's program — rather than wait in long lines, one may now fill out a lottery form. The lottery schedule is as follows:

1. 30 July–24 August 2007: Download (PDF, 400kb) or pick up a lottery/registration form at Fleisher, Monday–Friday, 10:00 A.M.–5:00 P.M., or send a self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope to:

Children's Program Lottery Form Request
Fleisher Art Memorial
719 Catharine Street
Philadelphia PA 19147-2811

2. Friday, 24 August 2007, 5:00 P.M.: Deadline for delivery of all completed forms to Fleisher. These may be mailed or hand-delivered during office hours.

3. 29 August 2007: Postcards or e-mails with lottery results will be sent to all participants. [Waiting lists are established once a class fills, and applicants will be contacted when spaces become available. Waiting lists are not held over from one term to the next.]

4. Saturday, 8 SEPTEMBER 2007: 10:00 A.M.–12:00 P.M.: Parents/guardians of those chosen in the lottery must attend walk-in registration to verify enrollment by paying lab fees. Bring verification postcard or copy of e-mail notification. Those who do not finalize registration on this date will be removed from the roster and replaced with individuals from the waiting list.

Additional information concerning Saturday Young People's Program class policies and registration procedures will be on the back of the lottery/registration form.

Because Fleisher's classes are designed to be age-appropriate, children entering this program must be at least 5 years old in September 2007. Parents of five-year-olds must present proof of their child's age at registration.

Membership and Materials Fees
No instructional fees are charged, but students are asked to take a membership of $15 for the term. Students are required to pay materials fees: $25 for those taking painting and drawing classes and $35 for those taking sculpture or printmaking. Nominal prop fees are charged in the Parents' painting classes. Participants in these classes need to purchase their own materials. Financial aid applications may be obtained by leaving name and address at 215.922.3456, ext. 312.
