This class allows each student to create a family of animal out of clay. They will also design and construct a home and landscape where their animals live. We will be using clay, paint, cardboard and found objects to complete this amazing family of animals.

Students will look at work by architects and designers and design a ‘dream home’ with blueprints and inspiration boards. They build a model using boxes, wallpaper scraps and other building material.

This class is a chance for students to create works of art that they can wear. Each student will make jewelry, bags and design t-shirts. They will be using a variety of materials including, but not limited to, fabric, fabric paint, clay and wire.

Ceramics: Intro to the Wheel (Ages 14-18) [CWSU-2] |

Prepare to get your hands dirty! In this class, students will use the pottery wheel to create vases, cups, containers and unique ceramic vessels. Students will learn about textures, slips, glazes and a variety of different decorating techniques. No previous experience necessary.

In this class students will learn how to use their manual SLR film cameras, how to develop their own black-and-white film, and how to print images in the darkroom. Students will also become familiar with the work of many historic and contemporary photographers and be led in a group critique of their own work.

This class is for students who have experience in the darkroom and are looking for some monitored open studio time. An instructor will be available for critique and advice. Here is an opportunity to fine tune your printing skills, develop all the film you shot on vacation, and even work towards building a photography portfolio!

Students will take their cameras to the streets of Philadelphia's colorful Italian Market, the lively South Street area, and the famous Magic Gardens and explore what the "decisive moment" means for them! Students will develop their photographic eye, and make images that tell stories while capturing their own point of view. Students will learn basic Photoshop Elements ® editing and manipulation of images and will finish class with a portfolio of five prints. Students must provide their own digital camera.

Starting a rock band? Budding Fashion Designer? In this class kids will get to design and screenprint their own T-shirt design. Students will explore several techniques for blocking screens and will learn color-mixing, registration, and printing on fabric.

Superheroes, pirates, robots, far off places and daring adventuresÂ…anything can happen in the pages of a comic book! In this class, weÂ’ll explore the process of making comic books and graphic novels. WeÂ’ll work on character sketching, writing stories and dialogue, laying out pages and of course, creating cool cover designs. Students are encouraged to bring drawings, ideas, and examples of their favorite comics to the first class.

Young artists get a chance to make multiple copies of their works of art in printmaking. Students will explore the range of printing making techniques, stencil, monotype and collage as they learn how to translate shape, color and textures into a series of prints. Indoor and outdoor studies as well as a look into architectural history will provide the students with visual reference for their prints.

Make the creatures of your imagination come to life as your own soft sculpture creations! Children will design and create a variety of sewn and stuffed toys out of felt and fabric, and will be introduced to sewing by hand and machine with the help of their teacher.
