This workshop is for experienced artists who need time in the lithography and etching studios. Participants must have technical proficiency, be capable of working independently, and have a valid Fleisher membership. Fee: $125 (for unlimited use during posted hours) for those previously approved for studio use, or $175 for new participants (includes orientation session).

Perfect for those ready to enter the world of art making for the very first time, this workshop will teach participants composition, design, tone, line and perspective progressing from simple design projects to more visually complex subject matter. Tuition: $200(members), $225 (non-members), plus $25 materials fee (most materials will be provided) and $15 model fee.

Are you known for saying, “I can’t draw a straight line?” Have you looked at art and thought, “I wish I could do that?” Well, you CAN! This workshop will help you discover your hidden talents to make and understand art. Each session consisting of guided exercises in mark making, design, color and vocabulary will introduce a range of techniques, materials and concepts that will expand your understanding of art and art making. In no time you’ll be making work that you’ll be proud to show off. No prior art experience is necessary, but a sense of fun and adventure is! Tuition: $200 (members), $225 (non-members), plus $25 material fee (most materials will be provided)

How to Photograph Your Artwork [AW167S] | Mr. Joe Mikuliak

16 and 23 January 2008 (snow date: 30 January)

This two-night program, presented by Philadelphia Museum of Art staff photographer Joe Mikuliak, will aid artists in photographing two- and three-dimensional artwork for presentation, competition, and publication. This workshop is for artists needing slides, digital images, or color prints. The first session, January 16, focuses on methods that involve a minimum of equipment and expense to produce accurate images, both indoors and out. There will also be a discussion of digital photography and making slides from digital files. Students then have a week to apply what they've learned before the second session. The second class, January 23, will feature slides illustrating good and bad techniques. Participants are invited to bring their own slides for discussion. Advanced techniques will also be covered. Tuition: $20 (members), $35 (non-members).

Enjoy your morning hours in a creative studio environment devoted to learning, discussion and much painting. Do you have painting experience already? Then bring your supplies and be ready to paint. Never painted before, but want to learn? At the first class you’ll learn what materials you’ll need and you’ll be guided on how to plan your painted image. By the end of these ten sessions you’ll be thinking and painting like a true artist and you’ll have a painting or two to prove it. Subject matter will be mostly still life, but artists wishing to work from photos or abstractly from their imaginations are welcome. Tuition: $200 (members), $225 (non-members)

This introductory course will familiarize students with the woodcutting tools and methods to allow them to carve their own blocks and produce prints. Students will explore carving techniques to obtain a range of texture, depth and dramatic contrast to create strong visual statements with their work. Studying examples of the woodcut throughout history will allow students to see different possibilities of expression. $200 (members) $225 (non-members); plus $35 materials fee

28 February to 1 May 2008

This class will introduce students with some prior knowledge of photography to taking, manipulating, and producing digital images. Students will learn to streamline their workflow, upload and organize their digital images, process RAW format files, create quality prints from digital images, use Photoshop Elements to enhance color, sizing, sharpening, and more. Computer literacy is required, though prior knowledge of Photoshop Elements is not necessary. Tuition: $200 (members), $225 (non-members), plus $35 lab fee

This workshop is offered for experienced silkscreen printers who wish to work in an instructed studio environment. Tuition: $200 (members), $225 (non-members), plus $40 lab fee.

9 February to 17 May 2008 (no class 1, 8 and 22 March)

The Philadelphia Society of Botanical Illustrators offers this special Saturday scholarship workshop primarily for teen students, but it will be open to adults if space permits. Students must have basic drawing skills and a valid Fleisher membership. The workshop will be taught by illustrators Virginia Fitzpatrick and Scott Rawlins.

The Society of Botanical Illustrators will provide all materials for teen participants. Adult students may purchase their materials in Fleisher's supply store. Subject matter will include plants and insects. Mediums to be taught will include graphite, colored pencil and watercolor. Registration limited to ten participants.

Digital Photography I [AW164S] | Mr. Jay Oliver Cummings

1 March through 10 May 2008 (no class 22 March)

This most basic workshop is for people who need to know how to use their digital cameras and may or may not have previous photography experience. Students do not need to be computer savvy but will learn how to look at, alter, and print their photographs with Photoshop Elements. Tuition: $200 (members), $225 (non-members), plus $35 lab fee

Photography I [AW162S] | Mr. Jeff Carpineta

1 March through 10 May 2008 (no class 22 March)

For the serious amateur photographer with an interest in learning how a non-automatic camera works, this workshop focuses on how to develop, print, and manipulate black-and-white images. Students must have their own manual 35-mm cameras. Limited to ten students. Tuition: $200 (members), $225 (non-members), plus $30 materials fee.

Silkscreen I, II, III [AW163S] |
9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.

1 March through 10 May 2008 (no class 22 March)

This class will accept students of all levels. Fundamentals of silkscreen printing are covered in this workshop that explores various screen stencils, block-outs, and color registration -- as well as more advanced techniques. Tuition: $200 (members), $225 (non-members), plus $40 lab fee.

How to Register
Download the registration form [PDF, 98kb] and mail it in with your payment, register through this website (follow the secure link in the course description), or call 215.922.3456, extension 328, using Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.

Please register for special workshops no later than one week before the starting date. Fleisher workshops fill quickly, so early registration is recommended. Registrations for open workshops will be accepted after the deadline, but workshops that have not received the minimum number of required enrollments by that date will be cancelled.

Tuition, Materials Fees, and Membership
Tuition and materials fees for special adult workshops vary; see individual listings for details. Model, firing/glazing, chemicals, and materials fees are listed after each workshop and must be paid at the time of registration. Adults are asked to take a membership of $30 for the term, or $60 for a full calendar year ($40 for senior citizens; $90 for a household). Those taking a membership at the time of registration will receive the member's discount on tuition.

Refunds/
Withdrawals/
Cancellations

If Fleisher cancels a workshop due to inadequate enrollment, registrants will receive full refunds for all fees paid for that workshop, excluding membership contributions. Students who wish to withdraw must notify Fleisher's Registrar in writing in order to receive a refund. 75% of the tuition will be refunded before the first class, 50% before the second class, and 25% before the third class. After the third class there are no refunds.
