Collage and Mixed Media [AW302] | Ms. Fran Gallun
6:30 - 9:30 P.M.
Only a few spaces remaining — register today!

Do you feel stuck and ready to explore? Has that old rectangle got you down? Collage and mixed media can often be a catalyst for change in your work, and a refreshing way to handle familiar media. Students from all art backgrounds and experience are welcome in this workshop that explores a range of materials with which to relax, take chances, and perhaps change direction. We will work with different papers, your own discarded art, and some three-dimensional shapes, as well as any and all water-based media. In addition to exploring techniques, students will work towards developing subject matter to create a sense of continuity in a larger body of work. This can be as simple as all the work the same size or color palette, a narrative story, a series of imaginary or real landscape, portrait or still-life. Bring interesting papers and bits of things to share. Tuition: $200 (members), $225 (non-members), plus $10 materials fee.

No matter what field of art and design you work in, you must be fluent in the language of color. Munsell, Itten, and Albers provide the theory, which we will use in fun and unorthodox ways to manipulate color in our various media. Artists of any level will benefit from a greater understanding of the qualities, function, and impact of color. Topics will include: the qualities of color (hue, value, chroma), methods to create contrast, physical and optical color mixing, color harmonies, how colors react to each other, and the expressive and psychological aspects of color. Tuition: $200 (members) $225 (non-members)
