Dr. Sketchy's Philadelphia is held monthly in the Sanctuary of the Fleisher Art Memorial, which offers a beautiful architectural backdrop to transform a mere drawing session into a cabaret extravaganza.

In exchange for $12, artists are treated to burlesque dancers, fetish divas, sideshow freaks, and roller derby queens modeling in elaborate costumes. During breaks, artists compete for booze and prizes. There are fantastic tunes, smart-aleck emcees and a gossipy blog that dishes the dirt the next day.

Join us on June 19th under the big top when Dr. Sketchy's Philadelphia proudly welcomes back those travellers of the sawdust trail, The Olde City Sideshow!

Not only will they arrange themselves in amusing motifs for the benefit of your sketchbook, but between poses The Olde City Sideshow will perform dangerous feats — the likes of which are seldom seen away from the carnival midway. You'll be shocked and amazed!

But wait, there's more! There will be ridiculously fantastic prizes for the winners of our drawing competitions and a delicious specialty cocktail!

So come on out and celebrate with us by drinking a complimentary cocktail from Sketchy's Pub (served up by resident bartender Cocktail Onion!), drawing some interesting folks, listening to fantastic tunes, winning some potential prizes, and basking in the glory of the Sanctuary at Fleisher Art Memorial.

About Dr. Sketchy's Anti-art School

Dr. Sketchy's was founded in Brooklyn in December 2005 by Molly Crabapple, an illustrator and former artist's model. Bored with the sterile classes she had posed for, Molly started Dr. Sketchy's on the basis of fair pay for models and boozy, decadent fun for all. Dr. Sketchy's now has 30 branches around the globe, including Hollywood, London, Berlin, Edinburgh, Toronto, Auckland and Melbourne. The Philadelphia branch of Dr. Sketchy's opened in October of 2007 and received immediate attention from the arts community as well as local media. The branch is conducted by Nicola Black of Nicola Black Design.

Dr. Sketchy's has also spawned a companion book, Dr. Sketchy's Official Rainy Day Colouring Book by Crabapple and John Leavitt, published by Sepulculture Books. Other Dr. Sketchy's projects include “Dr. Sketchy's Radio Free Radio” Internet radio station, a 2008 pinup calender, a run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art Show — a gallery show of the best art produced by Dr. Sketchy's around the globe.

Dr. Sketchy's has received coverage from the likes of The LA Times, Time Out NY, The Village Voice, WNBC, and The New Yorker.

“If you're looking for life-drawing classes, forget Pratt. Try Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School.” — Time Out NY

“[Dr. Sketchy's] will cure you of every boring drawing class you've ever been to.” — The Melbourne Sunday Age
