Elaine M. Erne
M.F.A., summa cum laude, Tyler School of Art, Temple University; B.F.A., summa cum laude, Carnegie Mellon University; additional studies at Pilchuk Glass School; recipient of a 2004-2005 Dene M. Louchheim Faculty FellowshipElaine M. Erne has been a part of the Fleisher faculty since 1998, starting as a studio assistant. In 2001, Erne became an instructor for the kiln-fired glass workshop as well as an instructor in the children’s program. Erne has also taught classes in lithography, collage and drawing. Ms. Erne has written two lab manuals, Kiln-fired Glass: the Basics for a Beginner (2001) and Basic Stone and Plate Lithography: Lab Manual for the First Time Lithographer (2004).
Ms. Erne’s prints and graphite pencil drawings from the series "The Lives and Traumas of Stuffed Animals" have been exhibited at many locations, including: The Center for Emerging Visual Artists (formerly Creative Artists Network), Fleisher Art Memorial, Moore College of Art & Design, The Bullet Gallery (New York), The University of the Arts, The Philadelphia Sketch Club, Da Vinci Art Alliance, The William Penn Foundation, Brodsky Gallery, SEI Corporation, Perkins Center for the Arts, Chashama Gallery (New York), Maryland Institute for Art (Baltimore), and The Maryland Federation of Art (Annapolis). Erne's work in the medium of kiln-fired glass has been shown at Art in City Hall, Moore College of Art & Design, Fleisher Art Memorial, Subculture Gallery, Doshi Art Gallery, and the Works Gallery.
Ms. Erne has received several honors, including a Professor’s Choice Scholarship to the Pilchuck Glass School, a Creative Artists Network service grant, and the 2004-2005 Dene M. Louchheim Faculty Fellowship. Ms. Erne is a regular participant in the annual Philadelphia Open Studio Tours and is an instructor in the Hand-in-Hand regional children’s outreach program. She is a member of the Philadelphia Print Collaborative, The Print Center, and the Philadelphia Sculptors.
