OCTOBER 2009

  • Fleisher instructor Elaine M. Erne presents a major solo exhibition, Elaine M. Erne: Drawings and Prints at the Rowan University Art Gallery, October 12 through November 14, 2009. Rowan University Art Gallery is located in Westby Hall on the campus of Rowan University, 201 Mullica Hill Road, Glassboro NJ 08028.

SEPTEMBER 2009

  • Fleisher instructor Don Kaiser presents Objects and Storms at Sage Projects, September 6 through 27, 2009. Sage Projects is located at 333 South Street, Philadelphia PA 19147.
  • Fleisher registrar James Mundie (Challenge artist, 1999-2000) is featured in Beautiful Human, an exhibition curated by Shelley Spector at Haverford College's Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery, September 11 through October 9, 2009. Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery is located at 370 Lancaster Avenue, Haverford PA 19041.

MAY 2009

  • Duprée Gallery presents the 2nd Annual Figure Drawing Exhibition, May 1 through 31, 2009, featuring drawings by James Duprée's students at the Fleisher Art Memorial. Duprée Gallery is located at 703 South 6th Street, Philadelphia PA 19147.
  • James Mundie is featured in The Morbid Anatomy Cabinet at Barrister's Gallery, May 9 through June 9, 2009. Barrister's Gallery is located at 2331 St. Claude Avenue and Spain, New Orleans LA 70117.

APRIL 2009

  • James Mundie exhibits fifteen photographs in Shock & Horror: Human Oddities and Medical Marvels at Todd/Browning Gallery, April 9 through May 9, 2009. Todd/Browning Gallery is located at 211 West 5th Street, Los Angeles CA 90013.

FEBRUARY 2009

  • James Mundie is featured in The Boston Printmakers 2009 North American Print Biennial at Boston University's 808 Gallery, February 15 through March 30, 2009. Mundie's woodcut P1535 (Two-headed Boy of Bengal) was given a materials award by juror Roberta Waddell, curator emerita of prints at the New York Public Library. 808 Gallery is located at 808 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston MA 02215.

    Later in the month, James will be showing new work from his series James G. Mundie's Cabinet of Curiosities in Alumni Travel Grant Exhibition at The Center for Emerging Visual Artists, February 26 through March 19, 2009. CFEVA is located at 237 South 18th Street, Suite 3-A, Philadelphia PA.

    Additionally, ten photographs from Cabinet of Curiosities were featured by New Scientist.
  • Nancy W. Wright is featured in Double Bind: Women Telling It Slant at Rowan University Art Gallery, February 16 through March 20, 2009. The exhibition was curated by Fleisher instructor Kathryn McFadden. Rowan University Art Gallery is located at 201 Mullica Hill Road, Glassboro NJ 08028.

JANUARY 2009

  • Candy DePew (Challenge artist, 2007-2008) presents Housing Project at the Design Center of Philadelphia University, January 23 through April 3, 2009. The Design Center is loacted at 4200 Henry Avenue, Philadelphia PA 19144.

  • Fleisher instructor Darla Jackson is featured in Darla Jackson vs. Anne Canfield at The Center for Emerging Visual Artists, January 26 through February 16, 2009. CFEVA is located at 237 South 18th Street, Suite 3-A, Philadelphia PA.
  • Fleisher instructor Kathryn McFadden has curated Trash Picked: Contemporary Arte Povera at Rowan University Art Gallery, January 12 through February 6, 2009. The exhibition includes the work of Fleisher instructor Alyse Bernstein, Fleisher staff member Geoff Hindle, and Steven and Billy Blaise Dufala (Challenge artists, 2007-2008). Rowan University Art Gallery is located at 201 Mullica Hill Road, Glassboro NJ 08028.

NOVEMBER 2008

  • Fleisher instructor Kate Kern Mundie presents Recent Paintings at F.A.N. Gallery, November 7 through 29, 2008. F.A.N. Gallery is located at 221 Arch Street, Philadelphia PA 19106. [more info]

OCTOBER 2008

  • On Sunday, October 5th, 2008, Fleisher held the 3rd biennial installment of Dear Fleisher, 4 x 6 Inches of Art. This invitational exhibition and sale featured 733 pieces of original postcard-sized artwork, presented anonymously and sold for $50 each. The event raised nearly $55,000 for Fleisher's education and exhibition programs.

JUNE 2008

  • Fleisher instructor Megan Fentzloff presents Under the Surface: an exhibition of mixed media etching at University City Arts League, June 13 through July 5, 2008. University City Arts League is located at 4226 Spruce Street, Philadelphia PA 19104. [more info]

  • On Saturday, June 7th, 2008, Fleisher holds its second annual ARTspiration! free community arts festival.
  • Fleisher registrar James Mundie (Challenge artist, 1999-2000) and his wife, instructor Kate Kern Mundie, exhibit together for the first time in Inside/Outside: Kate Kern Mundie and James G. Mundie at The Station Gallery, June 6 through 28, 2008. The Station Gallery is located at 3922 Kennett Pike, Greenville DE 19807. [more info]

APRIL 2008

  • On Monday, April 7th, 2008, the board of directors of the Fleisher Art Memorial was proud to present the 2008 Founders Award to Peggy Amsterdam, President of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, and Karen Davis, President and CEO of the Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia, in recognition of their significant contributions to Philadelphia's arts and culture community. The cocktail reception was attended by a record-setting 180+ guests, including Mayor Michael Nutter.
  • Several familiar Fleisher artists are included in Emerging to Established: Twenty-five Years of the Center for Emerging Visual Artists in the Director's Gallery of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, April 5 through July 6, 2008. Among the twenty-five artists whose works appears in the exhibition are instructors Elaine M. Erne (Challenge artist, 2006-2007), Lee Wilkinson and Hiro Sakaguchi (Challenge artist, 2004-2005); former instructors Ron Tarver, Douglas Takeshi Wolfe and the late Charlotte R. Yudis; and Rita Bernstein (Challenge artist, 2001-2002), Vincent D. Feldman (Challenge artist, 2001-2002), Judy Gelles (Challenge artist, 2007-2008), Jeffrey Stockbridge (Challenge artist, 2006-2007), and Judith Taylor (Challenge artist, 1989-1990).
  • James Mundie and Kate Kern Mundie welcomed their son Declan Fergus Mundie into the world on April 17th.

FEBRUARY 2008

  • James Mundie and Nadia Hironaka (Challenge artist, 2000-2001) are among those who have received 2008 Individual Creative Artist Fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. The goal of the PCA's individual creative artists division is to encourage and enable outstanding Pennsylvania artists of all backgrounds to perform their work and display it to the public.
