OCTOBER 2008
- On Sunday, October 5th, 2008, Fleisher held the 3rd biennial installment of Dear Fleisher, 4 x 6 Inches of Art. This invitational exhibition and sale featured 733 pieces of original postcard-sized artwork,
presented anonymously and sold for $50 each. The event raised nearly $55,000 for Fleisher's education and exhibition programs.
JUNE 2008
- Fleisher instructor Megan Fentzloff presents Under the Surface: an exhibition of mixed media etching at University City Arts League, June 13 through July 5, 2008. University City Arts League is located at 4226 Spruce Street, Philadelphia PA 19104. [more info]
- On Saturday, June 7th, 2008, Fleisher holds its second annual ARTspiration! free community arts festival.
- Fleisher registrar James Mundie (Challenge artist, 1999-2000) and his wife, instructor Kate Kern Mundie, exhibit together for the first time in Inside/Outside: Kate Kern Mundie and James G. Mundie at The Station Gallery, June 6 through 28, 2008. The Station Gallery is located at 3922 Kennett Pike, Greenville DE 19807. [more info]
APRIL 2008
- On Monday, April 7th, 2008, the board of directors of the Fleisher Art Memorial was proud to present the 2008 Founders Award to Peggy Amsterdam, President of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, and Karen Davis, President and CEO of the Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia, in recognition of their significant contributions to Philadelphia's arts and culture community. The cocktail reception was attended by a record-setting 180+ guests, including Mayor Michael Nutter.
- Several familiar Fleisher artists are included in Emerging to Established: Twenty-five Years of the Center for Emerging Visual Artists in the Director's Gallery of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, April 5 through July 6, 2008. Among the twenty-five artists whose works appears in the exhibition are instructors Elaine M. Erne (Challenge artist, 2006-2007), Lee Wilkinson and Hiro Sakaguchi (Challenge artist, 2004-2005); former instructors Ron Tarver, Douglas Takeshi Wolfe and the late Charlotte R. Yudis; and Rita Bernstein (Challenge artist, 2001-2002), Vincent D. Feldman (Challenge artist, 2001-2002), Judy Gelles (Challenge artist, 2007-2008), Jeffrey Stockbridge (Challenge artist, 2006-2007), and Judith Taylor (Challenge artist, 1989-1990).
- James Mundie and Kate Kern Mundie welcomed their son Declan Fergus Mundie into the world on April 17th.
FEBRUARY 2008
- James Mundie and Nadia Hironaka (Challenge artist, 2000-2001) are among those who have received 2008 Individual Creative Artist Fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. The goal of the PCA's individual creative artists division is to encourage and enable outstanding Pennsylvania artists of all backgrounds to perform their work and display it to the public.
