  • Fleisher's exhibition curator Warren Angle (Challenge artist, 1983-1984) and Fleisher instructor Kathryn McFadden are showing together at Cumberland County College's Clay College, October 2 to November 2, 2006. Clay College is located at 108 High Street, Millville NJ.
  • Fleisher board member Dina Wind presents her installation Black Islands at Nexus: Foundation for Today's Art, October 6 through 29, 2006. Nexus is located at 137 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia PA.

  • Daniel Heyman (Challenge artist, 2005-2006) presents his installation Clean Up America in The Archive Space at Crane Arts, September 1 through 30, 2006. Crane Arts is loacted at 1400 North American Street, Philadelphia PA.
  • Fleisher registrar James Mundie (Challenge artist, 1999-2000) presents Congress of Oddities: James G. Mundie's Prodigies at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, September 8 through October 22, 2006.   • Cerulean Arts' 10th Anniversary Exhibition of The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts MFA Class of '96 (September 15 through November 3, 2006) features work by Challenge artists Astrid Bowlby, Michael Kowbuz, Hiro Sakaguchi, and Mark Shetabi.   • Michael Kowbuz (Challenge artist, 1996-1997) presents paintings, drawings and prints in an invitational exhibition at Art Association of Harrisburg School and Galleries, August 5 through 31, 2006. Art Association of Harrisburg is located at 21 North Front Street, Harrisburg PA.
  • James Mundie (Challenge artist, 1999-2000) presents eight drawings in Alive Inside: the Lure and Lore of the Sideshow at Purdue University (East Lafayette IN), August 28 through October 8, 2006. This is a reprise of the group show curator Mark Sloan unveiled last year in Charleston SC.

JUNE 2006

  • Fleisher instructor Elaine M. Erne is one of thirteen artists chosen for Oink, Moo, Baa: Animals in Art at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, June 30 through September 3, 2006.
  • Fleisher staff member Karen Maziarz presents new work in Drexel University Photography Senior Thesis Exhibition at Voxpopuli Gallery, June 2 through 30, 2006. Voxpopuli is located at 1315 Cherry Street, Philadelphia PA.

MAY 2006

  • Fleisher introduces online course registration with secure credit card processing. The new system is available 24-hours/day and constantly updated with real-time course availability. Registration for Summer 2006 workshops is available now.
  • Fleisher instructor Maria Christopher (Challenge artist, 1998-1999) presents recent paintings and collages at Hypno Gallery, May 3 through 31, 2006. Hypno Gallery is located at 73 East Main Street, Moorestown NJ.
  • Fleisher instructor Elaine M. Erne presents Selected Works from the Lives and Traumas of Stuffed Animals at Abington Art Center, May 4 through June 3, 2006. Abington Art Center is located at 55 Meetinghouse Road, Jenkintown PA.
  • On Sunday, 21 May 2006 at 11:30 a.m., The Philadelphia/Tri-state Artists Equity Association will honor former executive director Thora Jacobson for her tenure at Fleisher with the 2006 Artists Equity Award. [more info]

APRIL 2006

  • On Thursday, 20 April 2006 at 10:00 a.m., City Councilman Frank DiCicco will present a City Council Resolution honoring former executive director Thora Jacobson for her work at the Fleisher Art Memorial. The presentation will take place in Room #400 at City Hall. This is a public session of City Council and all are welcome to attend to show their appreciation to Thora for her three decades of service to Fleisher.
  • Fleisher instructor Kate Kern Mundie and fellow painter Ed Bronstein will present recent works in landscape painting in As We See It at the Philadelphia headquarters of law firm Cozen O'Connor, April 17 through May 26, 2006.

MARCH 2006

  • Fleisher instructor Elaine M. Erne and Fleisher exhibition curator Warren Angle (Challenge artist, 1983-1984) are jointly exhibiting in Matched Pairs: a group exhibition of new gallery members and invited guests at Nexus: Foundation for Today's Art, March 3 through 26, 2006. Nexus is located at 137 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia PA.
  • Fleisher instructor Kate Kern Mundie is a featured artist in the reopening exhibition of the William Ris Gallery, beginning March 18, 2006. William Ris Gallery is located at 9400 Second Avenue, Stone Harbor NJ.
  • Fleisher instructor Bob Reinhardt presents Warriston: Images of Scotland at Sande Webster Gallery, March 7 through April 3, 2006. Sande Webster Gallery is located at 2006 Walnut Street, Philadelphia PA.
  • The exhibition Silent Voices, Loud Echoes at the African American Museum in Philadelphia from March 17 through December 24, 2006, features work by several Fleisher personalities, including: former board member Moe Brooker, Syd Carpenter (Challenge artist, 1989-1990), faculty member James Duprée, and former instructor Walter Edmunds. The African American Museum in Philadelphia is located at 701 Arch Street.

FEBRUARY 2006

  • The Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial itself is the subject of a new exhibition, The Art of Access: Community-based Art for All Ages in the Community Gallery at The Philadelphia Foundation, February 9 through May 26, 2006. The exhibition highlights artwork made by members of the Fleisher community — a distinctly diverse gathering of artists, from novices to professionals, of all ages and from many backgrounds. Each artist exemplifies Fleisher's continuing mission of providing access to art. The Philadelphia Foundation is located at 1234 Market Street, Suite 1800, Philadelphia PA.
  • Fleisher instructor Frances Galante presents new oil paintings at Artists' House Gallery, February 1 through 26, 2006. Artists' House is located at 57 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia PA.
  • Fleisher instructor Al Gury exhibits new paintings at F.A.N. Gallery this month. F.A.N. Gallery is located at 221 Arch Street, Philadelphia PA.
  • The Fleisher Art Memorial bids farewell to Executive Director Thora Jacobson, who served this institution for 33 years. Ms. Jacobson is leaving to become Chief Operating Officer of Philagrafika, an international printmaking festival that will be inaugurated in 2010 under the auspices of the Philadelphia Print Collaborative.
  • Nicholas Kripal (Challenge artist, 1989-1990) presents Recent Site Work in Millersville University's Sykes Gallery, February 13 through March 10, 2006. The Sykes Gallery is located in Breidenstine Hall, Millersville PA.
  • Fleisher instructor Ahmed Salvador (Challenge artist, 2003-2004) presents The Bioluminescent Firefly Experiment at The University City Arts League, February 7 through March 4, 2006. The University City Arts League is located at 4226 Spruce Street, Philadelphia PA.

JANUARY 2006

  • Fleisher instructor Elaine M. Erne is exhibiting in two exhibitons this month: 100% Centennial: Wall to Wall CFA, January 20 through March 5, 2006, in the Regina Gouger Miller Gallery of the Purnell Center for the Arts at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh PA); and Works on Paper Show: Annual Juried Exhibition, January 8 through 31, 2006, at the Philadelphia Sketch Club.
  • Christine Lafuente (former Fleisher faculty, artist-in-residence, and Challenge artist, 1996-1997) presents a solo exhibition of new paintings at Gross McCleaf Gallery, January 5 to 28, 2006. Gross McCleaf is located at 127 South 16th Street, Philadelphia PA.
  • Hiro Sakaguchi (Challenge artist, 2004-2005) presents a solo exhibition, away, in the The Felicity R. "Bebe" Benoliel Gallery of The Center for Emerging Visual Artists, January 12 through February 23, 2006.
